The Engineered Materials location of the Zodiac Aerospace, located in Marysville, WA is recruiting for a Senior Cost Accountant. The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for providing financial and administrative support to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations for the company. This individual performs the day-to-day processing of all transactions to ensure that company finances are maintained in an effective and timely manner; processes periodic management accounting reporting; analyzes daily business system transactions to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles; and provides administrative support in order to ensure effective and efficient department operations. This position performs other duties as required by managers.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
Responsible for the day- to-day general ledger accounting and reconciliation, financial reporting and analysis
Responsible for month-end, quarter-end and year-end close procedures including preparation and/or review of journal entries, account analysis and reconciliation
Work with team to ensure that AP, billing, cash collections and payments are completed in a timely manner and properly reconciled to the general ledger; and early identification and resolution of potential issues
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and keeping up with new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions; recommending new procedures
Analyze financial results including comparison of actual versus budget, forecast and prior periods
Monitor and analyze the activities of junior staff accountants to develop more efficient procedures, use of resources, and adherence to deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Investigate variances and advise management on corrective actions
Prepare various corporate financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, statement of cash flow, working capital requirements, backlog & sales, consolidation package, budgets, etc.)
Prepare cash flow forecasts
Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
Reconcile and report Inter/Intra company balances
Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor bank activity, recording necessary journal entries
Assist with payroll functions
Provides advice and training for less experienced Accountants and resolves escalated issues, as needed
Take part in yearly audit preparation and actions
Assist with corporate tax filings (employment, property, sales/use taxes)
Works with the IT team on system enhancement assessment, testing or resolution of production issues
Respond to ad-hoc requests from controller and executive management in a timely manner
Participate in special projects, ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed
Some travel to other facilities may be required
May be required to work overtime or irregular hours
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience in a related field required
5 – 10 years of experience working in a similar role preferred
Experience in business, managing processes, financial planning and strategy, accounting, legal compliance, corporate finance, and tacking job costs preferred
Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and general accounting structure, policies and procedures required
Strong understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance preferred
Proficient PC skills and a working knowledge of ERP and accounting software systems required
Proficient use of MS Office products, with advanced analytical skills in Excel required
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results required
Strong written and verbal English communication skills are required.
Ability to efficiently resolve problems required
Ability to accomplish multiple tasks required
Ability to handle periods of increased workloads and deadlines required
Ability to work independently, with minimal direction required, as well as collaboratively in a team environment required
Ability to use discretion and independent judgment when making decisions on behalf of the company required
