This Position will be assigned to the following shift: Thursday-Saturday 6:00pm-6:30am and every other Sunday.

Job Summary:

This position has two key roles:

  1. Operates computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines such as, but not limited to; milling machines, lathes, turning centers and horizontal mills used for the construction of aircraft interior structural and nonstructural parts, such as floor fittings, aluminum trims, counter tops and other various aluminum, stainless steel and phenolic parts used in aircraft interiors using engineering drawings, company and customer specifications.

  2. Inspects, audits and reports on materials, processes and products used in the construction of aircraft interiors using variable or attribute measuring instruments and techniques to ensure conformance with the company’s quality standards. This job reports to the Quality Inspection Supervisor or Quality Assurance Manager.

Summary of Duties:

  • Adheres to company and customer specifications, work instructions, engineering prints and work orders.

  • Documents the materials and processes used in the process to maintain traceability of product.

  • Operates CNC machine in a safe manner, including:

  • Loads programs into CNC machine and execute program cutting of the material.

  • Cuts raw stock to approximate size necessary for part being machined.

  • Secures and fixture raw stock of material into machine.

  • Squares material prior to running program if necessary.

  • Monitors the operating of the machine to ensure proper program performance.

  • Deburs completed machine parts as time allows.

  • Provides feedback to supervisor and programmer as to the performance of the program and tooling used for cutting the material.

  • Verifies the accuracy of the parts using calipers, micrometers and other metrology equipment as a periphery inspection and report any suspect parts immediately to supervisor.

  • Ensures machine is in proper working order and immediately report any issues or suspect of issues to supervisor.

  • Ensures machine and area around machine is kept clean and neat as practical and mandatory prior to ending of shift.

  • Properly maintains coolant as necessary, including removal of containments, proper dilution ratio and cleaning and recharging machine of coolant when necessary or when requested by supervisor.

  • Performs inspections of:

  • FAI (first article inspection) of newly designed or revised products.

  • Incoming products to ensure proper paperwork is received and parts conform to specifications, engineering and purchase order.

  • In-process inspection of parts being manufactured.

  • Sub-assemblies used in the construction of aircraft interiors.

  • Final products prior to shipment.

  • Interprets and reads engineering drawings, company and customer specifications to ensure accurate part manufacturing.

  • Assures an optimal level of manufactured components on the manufacturing floor conform to engineering drawings and / or specifications.

  • Inspects and records information on test models, production models or new parts

  • Perform first article sample part inspections and report findings.

  • Monitors approved processes and procedures used to assure product Quality

  • Gathers inspection data

  • Supports operations and engineering personnel with quickly resolving quality related issues.

  • General Notes:

  • Must carefully handle raw material and manufactured parts to ensure the integrity and quality is not compromised by handling.

  • Tasks may vary slightly based on products produced at division.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Degree or diploma from technical/vocational school in CNC machining is strongly desired and most preferred.

Experience: 1 - 3 years minimum experience. Previous CNC and / or Quality Inspection experience required. Aerospace experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Familiarity of the basic operation of CNC machine and the understanding of G and M code is preferred or the ability to learn is mandatory. Familiar with Windows Operating System®.

Other Skills:

  • The ability to read and write in English at a level necessary for successful job performance is mandatory.

  • Qualified candidate must posses’ ability to use precision measuring instruments. Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications and other technical literature is preferred.

  • Full knowledge and skill set with QA measurement tools

  • Knowledge in operating Portable Coordinate Measuring Machines (PCMM) such as Laser Trackers and Articulate Arms

  • Understanding of ASME Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Knows and understands Geometry

  • Catia / Enovia Literate or 3d Softwares

  • Knowledgeable in basic and advanced 3d Inspection Softwares

  • Knowledge of reading / interpreting engineering notes in 3d MBD set

  • Can work independently with minimal supervision
